Roughly a year later, on April 21, 1992 <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2017\/04\/26\/524744989\/when-la-erupted-in-anger-a-look-back-at-the-rodney-king-riots\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a jury acquitted the officers, and riots erupted in various locations<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>Feb. 23, 1999: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/news\/2019\/02\/03\/20-years-ago--amadou-diallo-was-killed-by-police-in-a-hail-of-41-bullets\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Four NYPD officers shot and killed 23-year-old Amadou Diallo. The officers were acquitted on all charges<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>Nov. 26, 2006: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2006\/12\/11\/nyregion\/11shoot.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Seven undercover NYPD officers fired more than 50 rounds of ammunition at unarmed Sean Bell at a bachelor party. The officers were acquitted on all charges<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>February 26, 2012: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/this-day-in-history\/florida-teen-trayvon-martin-is-shot-and-killed\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">17-year-old Trayvon Martin is chased and shot by George Zimmerman after 911 operators tell Zimmerman to leave the teenager alone. Six weeks after the shooting, Zimmerman was arrested and subsequently acquitted of murder<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>March 21, 2012: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/criminal-justice\/ct-ex-chicago-cop-dante-servin-expunge-charges-20191014-x5jhru6aqbelvfqq2tiiqlwmnq-story.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Chicago police officer Dante Servin shot unarmed Rekia Boyd, and was later acquitted of all charges<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>July 17, 2014: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/07\/16\/nyregion\/eric-garner-case-death-daniel-pantaleo.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo killed Eric Garner with a deadly chokehold. Pantaleo was fired, but was never convicted of a crime, and in 2019 Attorney General Barr recommended the case be dropped<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>Aug. 9, 2014: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/five-years-after-ferguson-missouri-police-shooting-michael-brown-jr-n1040226\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ferguson, Missouri officer Darren Wilson shot and killed 18-year-old Mike Brown Jr<\/span><\/a>. Wilson was not charged with a crime, and several protests were linked to this incident. Also, read the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/opa\/press-releases\/attachments\/2015\/03\/04\/doj_report_on_shooting_of_michael_brown_1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dept. of Justice criminal investigation report of this shooting, March 4, 2015<\/span><\/a><\/li><li>Nov. 22, 2014: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/10\/08\/us\/timothy-loehmann-tamir-rice-shooting.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cleveland Police Officer Timothy Loehman killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice. Loehmann was fired but not charged with a crime, and then hired by another Ohio police department<\/span><\/a> .<\/li><li>April 4, 2015: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/12\/07\/us\/michael-slager-sentence-walter-scott.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A bystander captured North Charleston, South Carolina police officer Michael Slager shooting unarmed Walter Scott as Scott runs away during a traffic stop. Slager was sentenced to 20 years in prison<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>April 12, 2015: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/07\/28\/us\/charges-dropped-against-3-remaining-officers-in-freddie-gray-case.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Baltimore resident Freddie Gray was arrested for carrying a knife and died while being transported to jail. No one involved was convicted of a crime, despite the medical examiner ruling his death a homicide as a result of injuries sustained while in police custody<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>July 19, 2015: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/07\/18\/us\/ray-tensing-will-not-be-tried-again\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">University of Cincinnati officer Ray Tensing shot and killed Sam DuBose during a traffic stop. Tensing was not convicted of a crime<\/span><\/a>. He later received a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cincinnati.com\/story\/news\/2018\/03\/22\/university-cincinnati-pays-cop-who-killed-sam-dubose\/450587002\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">$300k settlement of back pay and legal fees from the university<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>July 13, 2015: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2019\/05\/07\/open-up-case-period-sandra-blands-family-demands-answers-over-new-video-her-arrest\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sandra Bland was found hanged in a jail cell after a dashcam captured her brutal arrest by State Trooper Brian Encina, who was never convicted of a crime. Four years later, the victim&#8217;s own video of the incident was released.<\/span><\/a><\/li><li>July 2, 2016: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/06\/16\/us\/police-shooting-trial-philando-castile.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">St. Anthony, Minnesota police officer Jeronimo Yanez shot and killed Philando Castile during a traffic stop in which Castile was not driving or committing a crime. Yanez was acquitted on all charges<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>July 5, 2016: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2016\/7\/6\/12105380\/alton-sterling-police-shooting-baton-rouge-louisiana\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Baton Rouge, Louisiana. officers shot 37-year-old Alton Sterling as he lay on the ground, restrained by officers. No one was charged with a crime<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>Sept. 16, 2016: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/jury-acquits-tulsa-officer-shooting-death-terence-crutcher-n761206\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Tulsa, Oklahoma police officer Betty Shelby shot unarmed Terrance Crutcher as a news helicopter recorded the footage. She was acquitted of first-degree manslaughter<\/span><\/a>. Several <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/09\/20\/us\/video-released-in-terence-crutchers-killing-by-tulsa-police.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">videos of the incident are available online.<\/span><\/a><\/li><li>March 18, 2018: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2019\/03\/02\/sacramento-police-officers-who-fatally-shot-stephon-clark-will-not-be-charged-prosecutor-says\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sacramento, California police officers opened fire on 23-year-old Stephon Clark, striking him eight times, six of which were in his back. Officers said they began shooting because they thought he was holding a gun. He was later found to be holding an iPhone. No one was ever charged with Clark\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s death<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>Sept. 6, 2018: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/crime-courts\/amber-guyger-sentencing-resumes-after-murder-conviction-death-botham-jean-n1061146\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Officer Amber Guyger entered the home of Botham Jean (mistaking it for her own home) and shot him dead. She was convicted of murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>Oct. 12, 2019: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/fort-worth-police-officer-who-fatally-shot-atatiana-jefferson-indicted-n1105916\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Fort Worth, Texas police officer Aaron Dean shot through the window of 28-year-old Atiatana Jefferson, killing her. Dean was fired and charged with murder<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>February 23, 2020: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/article\/ahmaud-arbery-shooting-georgia.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Armed men in Brunswick, Georgi<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a shot and killed Ahmaud Arbery, a 23-year-old African-American jogging through their neighborhood. Two months later, after video of the incident circulated on the Internet, three men were arrested for his murder<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>March 13, 2020: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2020\/06\/louisville-protests-breonna-taylor.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Louisville, Kentucky police officers Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison and Myles Cosgrove entered the apartment of 26-year-old Breonna Taylor to serve a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153no-knock warrant\u00e2\u20ac\u009d on her boyfriend and shot Taylor dead. No one has been charged with a crime<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><li>May 25, 2020: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/05\/31\/us\/george-floyd-investigation.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on the neck of George Floyd for 8 minutes and 46 seconds (2 minutes and 53 seconds of which occurred after Floyd was unconscious)<\/span><\/a>. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/george-floyd-death-autopsies-homicide-axphyxiation-details\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">His death was ruled a homicide<\/span><\/a>, and as protests erupted around the U.S., <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/derek-chauvin-minneapolis-police-officer-filmed-kneeling-on-george-floyds-neck-arrested\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Chauvin was charged with third-degree murder<\/span><\/a>.
